Westminster property owners press for higher fees

The Westminster Property Association is, in a rather unusual move, lobbying the government and Westminster City Council to raise the cost of submitting a planning application to help pay for improvements to the borough’s planning department.

At present, the planning department (the country’s busiest) could be impacted by the comprehensive spending review leading to a delay in applications being processed. More than 10,000 applications are registered each year and staff cuts, in particular, would have serious ramifications.

Robert Noel, the association’s chairman’ believes that the property industry would be willing to pay higher fees in return for a more efficient planning system.
